Hip Hop and Babies

Anyone who knows me knows why I absolutely love this video:

Props to The Daily Julie for introducing me to such hilarity.

Reasons I love December's Vogue...

1. Lily Allen's Chanel ad: I like Lily Allen. I know a lot of people don't but I do. And I love Chanel. And therefore, I love Lily Allen FOR Chanel.

2. Cate Blanchett: So pretty. And poised. And candid.

3. President Obama cake (p. 142): I'll have a piece of that!

4. Hillary Rodham Clinton: Love the person, not so much the article. I know it's a fashion magazine, but I have issues with the way media talks about women in politics in terms of how they look or what they wear.

Blog FAIL

ugh, i tried so very hard to keep my blog going. but between running to tor-stinky-onto to visit the boy, writing papers, getting new jobs (yay!) and lazing on the couch, i've let blogs fall to the wayside. *sigh. i'd love to say that i'll do better, but i clearly just can't promise anymore.

What's wrong with these ladies?!

Ummm, so I saw panties twice today. In public. Not by choice. The first was on the bus. I noticed an early-20s girl wearing what was obviously a tunic, but was being worn as a dress. Nothing paired with it but some black panties. Which everyone on the bus saw once she sat up and did NOT pull her bunched up 'dress' down as she walked out of the bus. That means her unders were all over the bus seat. And all those creepy men who ride the bus also saw her panties. Ew ew ew. THEN, a few hours later coming home, a girl got off at the same station as I, and was wearing a WAY short jersey skirt which I'm not convinced was a skirt...as the masses of commuters were climbing up the stairs, I looked up to see the girl's black panties up ahead of me. Again, ew.

What's with these girls? I'm all for freedom of expression, wearing what you want, blah blah, but I am genuinely concerned that these girls do not find exposing thier panties in the public is a problem...and that it attracts certain attention from certain people...I'm also concerned with 'fashion' encouraging girls to wear such trends around the city. Pretty doesn't mean hoochie ladies!!!!

The Big Smoke...

Drove to Toronto (well, North York) with the boy and his father to move him (the boy) into his new place at York. Sad to be finally here and getting closer to leaving him here, but looking forward to the week. Moving in yesterday after the 5+ hour drive exhausted us both, so today we're sticking close to home to rest. But, we did make it to the biggest Ikea (in Vaughan) I have ever seen...we've already been twice. It's fabulous. The week ahead holds promises of shopping, international soccer, shopping, the ROM, shopping, maybe a broadway show, shopping (hooray backpay cheque!!!), and lots of fun dinners out.

Follow me, please :)

So, I've been trying to beef up the ol' blog, and have a nifty little spot to the side that begs people to follow me. I know I haven't had much innerestin' stuff to blab about, but I will...promise! So please make me look a wee bit more popular (or less lonely!), and follow SC4TMQ...K? Thanks.

Giveaway!

So, I'm new to this whole blog thing...and I've noticed that people give things away on thier blogs! For free! So of course, I just love this idea...and am willing to help out in any way I can ;)

So, I'm dutifully paying it forward by letting all (four) of my readers know about Fell 4 Fashions' giveaway: super adorable rings from ShopKim's Etsy Page! They're preatty freakin' fab...head over and enter!

Here's my fave...so Victorian and romantic!
I like this giveaway thing...

Delays....

My craft ideas have been a-stewing lately, mostly because my evenings this week have been consumed with writing a final paper...entitled Inclusive Liberalism and Participation in Canadian Learning Policy. Exciting, I know. And so, I haven't been able to actually get any work done on what's important in life -- my DIY projects...but I'm hoping to get going on that cart project tonight. I'd at least like to get the sanding started.

I'm also hoping to get some knitting done this weekend. I've picked up my Buttony sweater again in hopes of finishing for the Fall weather, and I've picked out a beanie I'd like to make for the cooler weather as well. All this on top of the afghan I'm attempting to knit for the boy's new place at York, and Christmas projects I'd like to get started on.

hack!

After whining to my girls on the email ring yesterday about how my plain Ikea furniture isn't working in my new place, I was made aware of Ikea Hacker. That's right...mods for Ikea junque! Of course I spent more time than is normal searching the site for ideas...and I've come up with a huge not-manageable list of TO DO's.

First on the list is to do something with my kitchen cart. It's pretty plain, but was a huge help in my first apartment for extra counter space, and then in the last place for a hall table. I have it in the hall again, but it just doesn't fit well. So I'm going to take inspiration from this hack...except I'm going to paint it white, and try for some kind of pinkish painted tiles on the top. And then I'm going to put plants on it :) It all works out in my head...we'll see if it works in reality.

Now off to the hardware store...

Furniture Inspiration

After moving into a new apartment and having too much space and not enough furniture, my Dad generously offered to give me the upholstered rocking chair that has been in our family since at least my great-grandmother. The thing has been recovered a billion times (including twice by my parents) and now that it's being handed to me, I'm keen to make my own mark on it. I wanted to find a fabric that's antique-y yet modern and bright, and whatever fabric I choose has to go with its darkened wood frame.

So, I recruited my ex-roomie K to help inspire me, and she found this on Design*Sponge. I'm not sure the fabric is exactly what I'm looking for, but I do love how it goes with the wood.

I'm leading towards the lovely Nigella collection from Amy Butler, specifically the petal colour scheme...I have the top (seat and back), the back of the chair, and possibly a cushion to work with, so love how all the patterns go together.

Thoughts?
